Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Braderz,

We could sign him for £20k tomorrow because he's shit. If he had done well though we'd be fucked because we wouldn't have the option to sign. Unlike Lanzini.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
I actually like the look of Calleri. He's a talented player who will go on to have a really good career. Probably not with us, probably not in the Premier League. But he is a good player.

I'm pretty sure we could sign him for £2.5m if we bid tomorrow.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
I think, like Tore and Zaza, Callieri is one of Bilic's 'mates' and he's desperate to see him come good before the end of the season.

He does seem to operate a 'favourites' policy.

Sven Roeder 12:34 Sat Feb 18
Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
As Alex says there is no option to buy and the 'trial' has proved that Calleri is WELL short of the necessary quality and will never be up to it.

The sensible option is to give Fletcher the opportunities that Calleri has had and get a feeling as to whether he will be good enough to understudy Carroll next season.
A crucial decision due to Carroll's FITNESS ISSUES.
We should be thinking about next seasons strikers now especially given the records of Carroll and Sahko in getting on the pitch.

>>> Calleri is being trialed. Much like Lanzini was. And much like Zaza was. Those who "can't understand" why he's here probably also have trouble using a knife and fork.

You seem to have missed the key issue - that unlike Zaza and Lanzini, we have no option to buy with Calleri. Makes all the difference - the whole issue is what's the point trialling a player we can't even necessarily buy?

Stick to cutlery.

This is the premier league though, and all the games are high stakes. Trials are for teenagers and training sessions. Lanzini earned his ace in the team from the off. You could see immediately what he brought.

As for understanding why he's here, I get that. It's because our owners are cheap and don't push the boat out so had to get numbers in quickly. As for understanding why he's on the pitch, that's beyond me.

For a horrible moment I thought this was a contemporary version of the Trevor Morley and Ian Bishop tie-up.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Calleri would be better as second striker with Carroll...

But difficult to drop anyone for him to start ...except maybe Feghouli...

However if chasing the game and we need a goal putting him on with Carroll...worth a try...

The reason he probably shows up good in training is that defenders obviously don't tackle hard like the opposition do on match days...he gets more time to get into scoring positions and score...

The Ghost of Braderz 11:28 Fri Feb 17
Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Fletcher has suffered from a lack of game time and his momentum was interrupted by Slavs insistence on trying out Calleri. Personally, from each of their first couple matches i thought both could add something to the team. Calleri was deemed useless by 99% of fans and Fletcher was the next best thing. Apparently that's changed now. Calleri will get another few months to shine and if he doesn't that'll be it. I think Bilic knows what Fletcher can do and will want him under contract at West Ham for the foreseeable future.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
If Carroll gets injured and Fletcher still doesn't get a chance, I think we can safely assume Bilic hasn't seen enough to convince.

Hopefully we have to wait a good while to find out.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
You only have to read on here to see the split, it's incredible, don't rate Calleri but then again have not seen enough of him. It's going to be hard to get someone decent as when fit he will play Carroll and you cannot argue against that. Would like to see Carroll and Fletcher given a run, think he would feed off the big man well.

So Syd, Do you think Calleri on the pitch increased our chances of scoring, even though he did not directly contribut to the goals?

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
I thought Calleri showed a wee bit of promise in patches on Saturday (not the most glowing tribute I accept) and I would be interested to see him in a run of games in the absence of Carroll or Sakho. Certainly I would have him or Fetcher (who has yet to convince in his cameos despite flashes of early promise) up front rather than a converted midfielder such as Snodgrass or Antonio. Would the end result have been different against West Brom if we had stared with Calleri I wonder?

Mex Martillo 9:09 Thu Feb 16
Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
i think Bilic prefers Calleri in a more isolated role up against a defense made up of big fuckers that push you about. Perhaps against a a more football orientated team he would use Fletcher.

But in reality it comes down to how they are in training, perhaps Calleri knocks them in no problem in training?
